Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

Jbckhoo, I'm replying here copying a reply I made to Zack_T from Microsoft on the other "Surface Pro 3 Slow Wifi" thread where Zach_T asked for feedback.

The October 28 firmware update has done nothing whatsoever to fix the wifi performance on my Surface Pro 3.  It takes the Surface wifi adapter 37 minutes 16 seconds to transfer a 1GB folder (two files) that a cheap Patriot wifi dongle transfers in about 1 minute.  The Surface remains about 35 times slower than the Patriot dongle and pushing 20 times slower than an old Dell laptop.  The router is a Netgear N300 WNR3500Lv2 about five months old.

This is disappointing, as I've been looking forward to this new firmware since it was first promised several weeks ago.

I note, though. that the Surface wifi adapter transfers the same folder from the Surface to my desktop in 6 minutes 52 seconds.  So it is faster (but still slow) sending data than it is receiving data.

I agree with you, of course. I'm only offering a work around that has worked for

most people.

And I also understand that it's usually impossible to ask an IT department to

change SSID names to separate 2.4 from 5 GHz because a single device can't

handle what every other device on the planet handles easily.

Thanks Randy, the more visibility MS have of this issue the better.

Same situation for me - been very hopeful for this firmware update but unfortunately no change in 2.4ghz wifi speed on my machine either.

This reminds me of the wake from sleep/crash bug that plagued my SP2 for 6 or so months before it was finally fixed by MS...

Barb, my issue is also most obvious within corporate IT environments where I'm just another user with no idea what hardware they're using and no control over any settings.

My phone and laptop (which I sometimes have to use instead of the SP3 when I anticipate a lot of network traffic) have connected without speed issue to these same networks over the last few months.

At home I connect to a 5ghz router which works decently - currently sitting on a 585mbps connection.

Microsoft - please keep working on this issue. It's clear from the last few posts that the issue with low 2.4ghz throughput still exists.

Hello, sorry to report that the Wi-Fi once again gets disabled after sleep.  Prior to this firmware update on 10/28, the Wi-Fi was very reliable.  After the firmware update, I have had to reboot the SP3 at least 3 times so that the network connection would reset and enable the Wi-Fi adapter. 

When this happens, I can't even select option to put in Airport mode at all, the only solution is to reboot it which is really not nice.

Basically the firmware update broke what was already working for me.  And this has nothing to do with the hardware that it is connecting to, it basically disables the network adapters and there is no way to re-activate them except rebooting.

Not good.
