Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

Sorry, I was actually using the dlink dir655+, which only has 2.4. For that router my speed dropped from 72 to less than half the speed after I did the sept update.

Now I'm testing on my AC1750 and noticed the speed has gone from 72 to 144, so the sept update did help in this case. I'm ok with that speed and rather keep a single SSID than to split it up. I'm sure I'll get faster speeds by splitting it but 144 is ok for me on my AC1750. Hopefully another update next month can fix the speed on my DLink dir655.

another thing I forgot to test is that I'm using a Bluetooth mouse while on my dlink dir655. I left it at my apt and using the ac1750 at home. So maybe the speed boost is due to not using the Bluetooth mouse at home. i'll have to test that next week.

Just wanted to say I was stuck at 72 mbps. After I found this thread I split 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks into 2 SSIDs and made my Surface 3 connect to the 5 Ghz.. I am now running between 585 and 702 mbps (only one wall between me and router). All updates installed. Router is Asus AC68U. Great tip, thanks.
