switched the 5ghz channel from 161 to 149...I don't think I will be able to return the unit as it was from Best Buy here in Winnipeg who only have a 14 day window. I got this unit day 1 and we do not have a MS store here either.
Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)
I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

contact online support for Surface and see if they will do an advanced exchange
(they'll place a hold on credit card funds but won't put the charge through).

thanks for your help on this and I may go down that road. but the thing is though that when I first got it, the unit was fine with the random limited connectivity and even less frequent missing network adapter and for me that was tolerable as it was few and far between (usually first thing in the morning when I awaken the unit) but the updates have made this progressively worse it seems. right now I am at work on 2.4ghz and running smooth as butter. Its software, not hardware IMO.

2014-09-01T15:00:26+00:00 I also have this problem. I often do local file transfers over wlan and never see rates above 2MB/s (approx 15mbps) and the link speed is usually below 72Mbps. This is a wireless N router and all the other devices in the household link at 300Mbps transferring files at around 10MB/s
On the plus side; my battery life and connection stability are very good.
I've tried most of the workarounds on this thread with no success.
Please keep working on the firmware/driver updates, hopefully this will be resolved soon, at the moment we're making do with usb sticks and its very frustrating.

2014-09-01T20:56:36+00:00 Just adding my experience here. I bought my daughter the Surface Pro 3 2 days ago. All updates installed. She keeps complaining about losing Wifi connection. I have the WRT1900AC. It would take a reboot to connect again. I looked further and found that speed on the 2.4GHz was 65Mbps to the router, and speedtest would register a meager 2Mb(another laptop next to it did 30 which is typical for Comcast here). On the 5Ghz channel, the connection to the router was 866(ac) and speedtest was 30. This is a serious issue. We have a large house and the 5Ghz signal is not nearly as good at long distances. Come on Microsoft! It's hard to be supportive when you don't provide support!
