Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

Out of curiosity, has anyone tested the throughput of a USB ethernet adapter? I am oddly experiencing the same throughput issue on both wifi and wired. The adapter i'm using is not the microsoft branded adapter, however I use these around the office when necessary and have no trouble with them normally.

I got the System Firmware update, a bunch of misc. updates and the 171meg

download, but not the individual firmware updates that are being rolled out

"gradually".

I just got the update couple of hours ago, I installed the update, then rebooted and then shut down.  Then I changed my router's 5 GHz band to AUTO channel, I had it in the high band.  I prefer to have it in auto since every other gadget works just fine with it in Auto, the SP3 should too and it was not working so far.

I then powered up the SP3 now with the latest firmware and so far approx. 2 hours it is good without any sign of slowing down as it did before, it is early so I will live with it for couple of days and report back.

So far the transfer rates are holding at what they were, I moved several GB of data, some in multiple smaller files and some large 4-10 GB files and the results were the same, about 230 Mbps which is good enough for me.  As long as the Wi-Fi is stable and if it maintains this transfer rate, we are good.

Just FWIW my WAPs are all wireless N so if yours seems to work with A or AC you might want to verify that it also works properly using N mode, so you won't get an unpleasant surprise when you are out roaming somewhere.

Well as a last ditch effort I did a total reset of the unit to factory config and installed the new 8/12/14 firmware update (and power-cycled, did a dance, yada yada) and no joy, still 3 mbps on the internal chipset and instantly goes to nearly 40 mbps with an external wifi dongle. Back it goes, damn shame.

BTW for those whom the update worked I'd again suggest making sure that it works on more than just your home router before declaring the problem fixed... because the problem clearly isn'tfixed, given that I am testing on a brand new unit in purely stock configuration (other than the required updates) and it still doesn't function properly.

Hello, the latest windows updates seemed to have solved "so far" the issues I was having with the SP3.  Still only about 24 hour since the updates but it has not disconnected once from the AC router.  I even connected it to the old G router an hour ago and the speeds were normal, no "Limited" issues.

So for now I am going to say that for me it has solved the issue.  I will report back if I find some problems but with my Linksys WRT1900AC, it is stable even with the channel in Auto now like the other devices.  Hopefully they don't break it again.
