My router is a Linksys WRT1900AC and I also tested with a Dlink AC router, I think it was the DIR-868.  I was testing that router for work but the results with the SP3 were the same.  I was able to have somewhat reliable connectivity to an older Dlink Mycloud G router after they released the first update but then it never worked properly after all the updates to *any* router.

I even went to a home with a DIR-655 Dlink router and SP3 would stay connected for 2-3 hours OK then then the upload speed would be almost non existent and it would drop to Limited Connectivity eventually.  And this is with the latest windows updates to date.

what channels did you set the 1900AC to? Or did you use auto select (same

questions for the other routers you tried). I'm wondering if setting an explicit

channel (as well as explicit different SSIDs for the two bands for those routers

that out of the box use the same name for both) has any bearing on what folks

are seeing.

I have to say that I returned a 1900AC as being the worst AC router on the

planet for features and stability. I don't know if the latest firmware fixes

anything, but I was appalled at the lack of a backup and restore settings

function for starters.

that router also has a broadcom chipset.

Well, I never had a single issue with the WRT1900AC to date, I did not buy it when it first came out so maybe they solved all the problems by the time I bought it.  But I also configure the routers and leave them, no need to change the settings once they are installed.

The two SP3's I tested failed in the 4 routers I tested (2 AC, 1 N, 1 G) in my location and also in 3 other routers externally.  Every other device (iOS, Android, Chrome, Windows) works as it should, without dropping the wireless connection while the device is in use at least.  My main router at the start was the DIR 655 which is an N router and SP3 could not keep a connection at all.  I had to get an old G router and SP3 would be more stable but eventually would drop to Limited Connectivity, awful.  Incidentally, Microsoft fixed this issue with the patch in 7/6 I believe, SP3 would be very stable finally! and then, they posted a new fix and broke it.  Maybe some earlier SP3s had the problem and I got penalized by purchasing it too soon.  It will be interesting to see if new LOTs have any of these issues now.

In fact, when I got the SP3 I did not think it was possible by today's standards on high end devices like the SP3, to have a gadget with such an awful and unreliable Wi-Fi connection.  It is sad because I really like the SP3 but with Microsoft losing so much money with the Surface product, maybe this will be just another Zune HD story.  I wonder what the return rate is from users that really don't even know it is a Wi-Fi issue and return it.  Then word of mouth is also a problem from that point.  Due to my tests, I am unable to recommend it to my company as a device we can give the executives.  

It is a great product but without a solid Wi-Fi connection it becomes an expensive picture frame.  I was able to make it work with an external USB Wi-Fi card, but the majority of users won't go through that just to have this device.
