Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

    The 2.4Ghz link is still slower than it should be (based on other devices using the same SSID) but it works now. I have about a dozen SP3s at work that I'm going to upgrade and then test with Cisco 3501 APs. These are 2.4Ghz 802.11N access points. I'll let you know what I find next week.

    Eddie - how did you go with the other SP3s?

    I updated as soon as the firmware was available but unfortunately the issue still has not been fixed for me.

    I'm currently sitting in my usual spot in head office and seeing similar link speeds - 2mbps to 30mbps, usually hovering around 11mbps. My Dell laptop is right next to it connecting to the same network at 130mbps.

    This has been an on-going issue - and the last 11/19 update specifically stated

    that "Adds customer-requested functionality to prefer 5Ghz connections when both

    a 2.4ghz and 5ghz connection are present with the same SSID." - and folks have

    been reporting that this has not happened.

    The reply from Clare (Microsoft Service Delivery/Support) was that she would

    pass on to appropriate teams, but there has been nothing since. I don't know if

    the info is not being passed on or....

    The issue is easy to replicate.

    I don't normally use the same SSID name personally, but I know folks that do,

    and there are routers that come configured that way out of the box, and folks

    can't control Enterprise AP configs, etc. etc.

    It's a Ubiquiti Unifi AC access point.

    I'd expect a device with AC connectivity (ie. Surface Pro 3) to prefer an AC connection over N (with the same SSID) provided there is sufficient signal strength etc. but unfortunately it remains permanently connected to 2.4ghz N/G.

    Hopefully we can get this revolved soon.

    Yup. This is still an issue for some people, perhaps everyone.

    Can you please provide the brand and model access point?

    Hi,

    I've been using a surface pro on 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless N networks for a few months. Performance and stability have improved with the updates and I now get similar performance to my other devices & pcs; which is a good start!

    However, we've recently switched to a new set of access points which provide 2.4ghz G & N access as well as 5ghz N & AC access. All the networks/bands have the same SSID and this cannot be changed, the client should choose which band/speed to use.

    Unfortunately, my surface connects to the 2.4ghz N (& sometimes G) exclusively. It never connects using AC.

    Is there any way to get AC wifi speeds when both the AC and N networks have the same SSID? Surely this is quite a common scenario?
