Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I believe a user replied on this thread with a possible solution that points to the problem.  I have not tried this so I can't say it works or not.  Maybe you can give it a try and let us know.   His original post is on page 15 of this post.

the problem is connected standby.  the way it suppose to work is when you turn off the screen, it suppose to go into connected standby, which is low powered state while still connected.  in this low powered state, there isn't enough power to boost the wifi signal to what you would expect when you are using the system.  the problem is there seems to be a bug where the wifi is always in this low powered connected standby state even when you are using the surface.  to fix this, just disable connected standby with the reg key

Open regedit.exe, go to

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\ and set the value CsEnabled

from 1 to 0.

This fixed my issue and I'm using the latest MS patches and drivers to date.  I can live without connected standby for awhile till MS comes out with a fix.

I wonder if those with issues are using IPv6. I have found less issues if I disable it in my Asus Router. Again, I'm not proposing any solution, I'm just trying to find the cause.

Well it would seem I'm not out of the water yet either... :(

Now I have AWESOME connectivity... WHEN I have connectivity... on 5.0 Ghz.   The SP3 falls into "Limited" connectivity" then snaps out of it. And sometimes, when the device is PARTICULARLY bored, it simply shuts off all network adapters on the hardware stack... that's always fun. 

And I DID find a little-used channel to run on as well to ensure I wasn't having interference.

On the 2.4 Ghz channel, I get the same 53-72mbps as before.

So... square two... better than back to square one, but still an unpleasant user experience...

The new router DOES help out a lot, however!

Hello. Yes i did that with the first SP3 I got and it could not stay connected. Customer support said it was probably defective and returned it. I then heard Microsoft acknowledged the problem and were fixing it so I got a replacement but a different model as well. The one with 8 GB of ram.  however that had the same exact wifi problem as well.

I tried different locations, in fact even with wireless G routers it would drop the connection, it was more stable but not reliable.  Microsoft then released a patch that solved most issues.  unfortunately the last patch after that broke it again.

I then gave up and got the USB WiFi adapter and has been flawless since then since I am not using the internal WiFi card anymore.  just for kicks I enabled the internal card today and it dropped the connection after one hour, awful. Back to the USB WiFi adapter without issues.

Bottom line is Microsoft is not really fixing this problem or not taking ownership of the issue.  users will lose confidence on their products if they can't produce something stable.  like I mentioned in an earlier post, my nexus 7 has a rock solid WiFi connection, that is a $200 machine, same for other inexpensive devices, this $1,400 machine can't even stay connected to the internet. 

Do you think Apple would release their air laptop with the same problem? Something is not ok with the company.
