Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

    Thanks, but I wasn't asking how to do it; I posted a solution. The one you referenced is about the same, but mine uses PowerShell (better) and doesn't require an external script.

    I've been lurking and keeping an eye on this thread since I purchased my Surface Pro 3 last month. Like everybody else, I was affected by multiple problems: link speed maxing out at 72 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, awful throughput, and limited connectivity after resuming from connected standby.

    The latest September driver update has resolved most of my issues. However, a big one remains: when waking up from connected standby, Wi-Fi quality degrades and remains that way until the Marvell AVASTAR wireless adapter is reset (i.e. disabled and reenabled). This is not obvious if one is merely browsing the Web, but attempting to stream, say, recorded HDTV on Windows Media Center results in an infuriating buffering mess until either the Wi-Fi adapter or the Surface is restarted.

    While in this degraded state, the driver reports a normal link speed, but actual throughput drops to a fraction of what it should be, and the connection is riddled with random stuttering and latency spikes, with pings to LAN hosts jumping from the normal 1-2 ms to anywhere from 200 to 2,000 ms. 

    Manually disabling and reenabling the Wi-Fi adapter every time I woke up my Surface to stream video got old really quickly, so I figured out a way to automate this that I've described in my blog:

    While not ideal, this will tide me over nicely until Microsoft (hopefully) releases the ultimate fix.

    I'd have to know more about your environment to comment on this. How far away?

    How many floors? What kind of walls? plaster? brick? old construction? what

    channel is your 5GHz SSID set to?

    I continue to have problems with the wifi on my Surface Pro 3. Since the SP3 will never choose the fastest possible speed available on my Airport Extreme router I created unique SSIDs for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. My problem is if I'm connected to the 5GHz band my connection will be stable for a few minutes then slowly start degrading until the SP3 completely drops the connection. The only way to get back online is to toggle airplane mode or select the 2.4GHz band manually and connect to it. I can reproduce this issue with ease. This is the problem with not having a wifi driver that can dynamically chose the best possible connection. Having to reconfigure your router then manually connect to or disconnect from separate SSIDs is a massive hassle and IMO unacceptable. I'm losing love for the product pretty quickly right about now.
