go once with the SP3 connected to the 5 GHz band, run the test, then select

Share this Result, then copy, then paste the result into a reply. It will look

close your browser. connect to the 2.4 GHz band, go back to www.speedtest.net,

run the test, then select Share this result, copy and paste into a reply.

please include who your provider is and what speed tier you are on in the format

105/10. replaced 105 and 10 with what your speed tier is.

how are you measuring this? go to speedtest.net and test with both SSID's and

report back and also include what speed tier you have from your ISP.

If it were me, I'd be livid, but I'd bite the bullet and get a really good ASUS

or Netgear 802.11ac router and run it in Access Point mode and attach it to a

port on the Verizon router. I'd specify separate SSIDs for 5 and 2.4GHz and

connect my SP3 to the new 5 GHz SSID.

the MI424WR-GEN3I is ancient in router years. Verizon will sell you a better

FIOS router for $75-$100 but you are better off with your own device.

I DO realize that the issue is with the SP3. But absent a fix from Microsoft and

the lack of specific comments on this specific issue from Microsoft, I'd

probably spend the money. This isn't a real answer to the lack of

attention/fixes, but it is the only thing I can suggest.

I can personally vouch for the Netgear R7000 and the ASUS RT-AC68U. There are

some cheaper routers that can be run in AP mode that may work ok, but I don't

have personal experience with them.

I have the ASUS RT-AC68U, and the problem is identical whether I am connected to my 5GZ or 2Ghz networks.

I've been speaking with a number of other friends/family/colleagues that also picked up Surface P3s on Day 1 and they seem to be having the same issues. 802.11ac compatibility seems to be the worst, but even 802.11n speeds seem to be worse than other stable devices.

This fixed issues for me.  Using 802.11n on the newest driver, I was seeing speeds around 8mbps.  I am now seeing full speed again with the 4/24 driver.

As I have mentioned a few times to people in this thread already, I know its 37 pages for new folks so could someone sticky this "workaround" 

I guess I'm wasting my breath.  I too have asked around and found 4 people with a SP3 who are all IT professionals with 15+ years of experience, like me, that know what they are talking about.  Not one of them found better actual throughput with the old driver, just a better link speed.  A nice, shiny placebo.

8mbps?  Link or throughput?  How are you measuring?  ...are you just reading the speed in the WiFi Status window?  I haven't read all 37 pages of this, just the first and last few, but has anyone actually measured throughput?

So, that's 5/5 people that found the old driver is not really any better in terms of throughput, but I know it's less stable in terms of connection reliability.

Marvall and Microsoft just need to fix this.  In the meantime, we need to be patient and put up with less than ideal WiFi speed.  Faffing around with drivers doesn't help.
