Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

    EVERYONE ELSE:

    Those of you with issues of slow 72Mbps--

    1. brand and model of router
    2. are the SSID's for 2.4GHz and 5 GHz the same?
    3. If yes to above, does specifying a unique name for 5GHz and connecting to

    that improve your experience?

    Quickly looking through these many posts, I'm wondering if there is a pattern of

    broadcom chip (or maybe others) wifi routers that have this "smart select/smart

    connect" technology out of the box.

    I always thought that the SSID for both bands had to be different. That's in the way I always had it. In my case, 5G is not reliable. But I think it's a router issue.

    You may want to use Stateful v6 so that your devices always get the same v6

    Reporting back in with SUCCESS using Keith Boring's suggestion.

    Apple Airport AC base station: simply adding a specific SSID to the 5 GHz network and connecting to that SSID specifically by name instantly bumped my link speed from about 60Mbps to 600-700Mbps, in line with my other AC devices.

    I didn't make any other changes to the SP3 or router, other than giving the 5 GHz network its own name, and connecting to it specifically.

    I have not experienced any lost or limited connection problems since making this change. It basically just seems to be working the way I expected it to in the first place.

    So, it seems like for whatever reason, when presented with a dual-band AC network, the driver prefers the 2.4 GHz band and gets lousy speed due to the crowding on that band..? Maybe?
