Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

I wonder if those with issues are using IPv6. I have found less issues if I disable it in my Asus Router. Again, I'm not proposing any solution, I'm just trying to find the cause.

Frank, there shouldn't be an issue with IPv6, provided there are no strange bugs in the router. I know various vendors working on various IPv6 bugs, but speed should not be an issue.

I'm got it configured using 6to4 tunnel. Do you have any guide about how to configure it without 6to4? It I use the native setting this page tests fail http://test-ipv6.comcast.net/

so the way to install the wifi adapter, download the driver via internet to the hard drive, the disable the Wi-Fi via charms bar, then run the installation you downloaded and when asked say to have the Tp-Link software manage the WiFi connection, not the windows network manager.  And that is all.

Then we just wait and see when Microsoft releases a patch.

I tried disabling the connected standby as mentioned by another user. That didn't work at all, WiFi issues are still present. What I did notice was that WiFi works fine as long as I have 3+ bars of signal on the surface 3. All other devices work fine in at 20-30m from the router but at least the surface 3 works within 10-15 meters of the router. After that distance the surface pro 3's speed drops to 1mbps.

Tried going back to BB to see if they knew anything but kept getting exchange/return as I am within 15 days of buying it. The employees there said I was the first in complaining about WiFi issues or any issues at all.

In regards to the fan heating up, the surface 3 tends to get hot with the most basic apps. (e.g. Mahjong, Frozen) By hot I mean warm enough to make you reposition your hand. The warm/hot area is the same as the others, behind the right side and a little bit above the windows button.

I still have not had the overheat issue.  For the fan, I reported it was obvious during the updates and initial synching of Dropbox, but since then, I have not hear it much.  The top right is warm but that is it.

I was traveling yesterday and used it throughout the day.  even streamed some slingbox and watch an avi movie and the fan did not come on.

I did order the nano usb wifi adapter and should have that later today.  Less than $10 on amazon.

I also turned of chrome in the background.  I have had issues with that in the past on other systems.

You may be on to something, for me, as soon as I moved to using the TP-Link USB nano WiFi adapter, all the problems vanished.  The one issue you mention that when you try to wake up the SP3 and it took forever to respond, is also solved by using an USB wifi adapter.  Basically if you disable the onboard wifi card and use other hardware for it, everything works beautifully!!!  Like it should be.

That is why I can live with the SP3 now without worries, believe it or not, the connected standby does work with the USB adapter as well.  All this is at the expense of some battery life of course, but it is not awful.

So, yes, I think it is a hardware issue plus more software as well.  Maybe Microsoft should bundle in the USB Wi-Fi adapters :)

I do think it is crazy that they are not even acknowledging that there is a problem and users have to resort to ask the community for answers.  This is supposed to be a premium device and I personally feel like I just bought something on eBay because I have no support of any kind.

Not many units may be flying off the shelf, otherwise they would have a major press issue as well.
