Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

Well, I tested the SP3 internal Wi-Fi with about 6 routers and the results were mixed and also after the 7/16 updates, new issues started to appear and routers where it worked OK, after the 7/16 it no longer work reliably.  

SP3 Wi-Fi driver is not reliable at this time at all.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.  I would not release the SP3 in a business environment yet, it is too buggy.  I was not able to recommend it for our use.  

I kept mine for personal use because the USB Wi-Fi adapter solved my issues, but not everyone is wiling to do that approach to have an stable PC out of the SP3.

If you have people travelling, the SP3 does not work at this time since you don't know what routers they will be connecting to on the road.  If you must use the SP3 now, get the Wi-Fi nano USB adapter and you won't have any issues until Microsoft finally solves this.

That's actually very helpful information and I am considering just buying a new router simply to test it.

However, how can I justify putting this out for full-time work use if I have to worry folks are going to be somewhere and the wifi router/infrastructure was purchased a year or two ago? That's the risk the standard is suppose to mitigate -- if the Marvell isn't standard that is a deal breaker.

Hello, I exchanged my SP3 with another model even from 128GB to 256GB with 8GB of RAM and the Wi-Fi issue was exactly the same.  Like others, Microsoft has not posted any updates since 7/16 so we are still waiting for this to be solved.

I bought a nano USB Wi-Fi adapter and disabled the internal Wi-Fi card, couldn't take it anymore.  Since then I have forgotten about all these Wi-Fi issues.  I do hope that Microsoft fixes the Wi-Fi woes so I don't have to use my USB port for the Wi-Fi adapter though.

I decide to try a different approach - I looked to my router.  I had a LinkSys E4200, and replaced it over this weekend with an ASUS RT-AC87 router.  You can read a review on this router here. 

NOTE: I updated the firmware (which was reported as buggy - fixed a lot with fw update for router)

With new this router, I have zero problems at home.  In fact, here's my speed now:

It seems that there is a "backwards compatibility" issue with the Marvell drivers for older routers.

Which is still pretty uncool... but... some answers for you!

My question is if this is a common problem or not? Will an exchange get me a Surface Pro that works correctly?

Unless something changed recently, exchange/new device is going to be the same imo.  It is still the same Marvell chip with the same drivers. 

7/8/14 update seemingly fixed many wifi problems. 07/16/14 apparently reversed it/messed it up more for many users. MSFT has been silent since the 07/16/14 update.

MSFT tech support for SP3 is pretty much pointless but for the "install all updates,refresh/reset and if that does not work send it in for exchange/repair".  Nice people though. 

Issue is on the engineering/product management side and they have been silent since 07/16/14 update.
