I bought Surface Pro 2 recently. It is a brand new computer. All I have done is to use it doing homework, watching videos.

But it happened several time recently, I am doing nothing, just letting it on.  it suddenly crashed and let me search for  "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal (mwlu97w8x64.sys)". what does this mean?

Hi allenyw80,

Thank you for the reply. I understand you are having the same issue on your replacement device and I know this is a frustrating situation for you. I'm here to guide you in the right direction.

Please try the following:

  1. Back up your files.
  2. Do a reset.
  3. Go to Charms>Settings>PC settings>One Drive>Sync Settings>Turn off Sync your settings on this PC. This step will isolate the settings from other computers that might affect your Pro 2.
  4. Install all updates.
  5. Install your apps back one by one to see if the problem comes back with certain apps.
  6. If the problem continues, please contact our Support.

Best Regards,

Clare

    Daniel,

Asking questions allows to isolate the problem. The same symptoms might not mean the same causes. Plus each user is using the device in a specific environment.

    Cheers,

My Surface is my own device and not part of the IT department. I work at a university so I use the internet as if I were a student.

I would prefer to not do a refresh. I have uninstalled the Marvell drivers and did a reinstall multiple times. This has not fixed the issue. Has anybody here had any luck fixing this issue with a full refresh?

I suggest that you read all of the posts here and stop asking questions.  To go on talking infinitely will never solve the problem.  Do something.

    Thank you,

    Daniel

Agreed!  The majority of people who have had this problem and posted in this thread have already determined that the problem is related to the Marvell AVASTAR driver or device. Asking the same cookie-cutter tech support questions when the problem has already been diagnosed is unhelpful.

Since the Windows 8.1 August update which contained an updated network driver, I haven't had another BSOD.  The driver version in the latest update is 14.69.24054.176 dated May 23, 2014.  I'm interested if this has helped others.
