Surface Pro 7 Freezing and Restarting

I just purchased the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and have only been using it for one day. In that time it has frozen and completely restarted itself 4 times. It is brand new and I probably only have an hour or two or screen time. There is no specific thing that causes it, the screen just randomly freezes until the surface restarts on it's own. Any solutions or help would be greatly appreciated.

This issue seems to be tied to the display powersaving tech that Intel has called Panel Self Refresh, which may cause the display panel to not update in certain situations (though it's not good at figuring out what those situations are) to reduce power.

I've fixed it on my SP7 i5/8G/256G by installing the Intel Graphics Command Center from the Microsoft Store, opening it, going to System>Power>Panel Self Refresh and turning it off for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In".

FANTASTIC... I had this issue on my SP7 / i7 / 16GB and upon installation of Intel Graphics Command Center and turning off Panel Self Refresh my SP7 does not freeze or does not blackout. Its been 24 hours now and it hasn't occurred so far. Thanks for this wonderful, useful tips.

I purchased a Surface Pro 7 and after a week was totally frustrated with it crashing and freezing. I spent 2 hours online with support trouble shooting and when we were finished it still crashed and froze. I returned it for a new on and it did the same thing. I was really disappointed since I have had a Surface Pro 4 for several years and loved it. I think you should stop selling them until the issue is fixed. It was suggested that I get the X - anyone had an experience with it?

I had the same issue when I got my Surface Pro 7.  I thinks it started after I had installed all the Windows updates.

I got it fixed by installed the Intel Graphics Command Center app.  Once you in stalled go in the Intel Graphics Command and unchecked two items.

Opening it, going to System>Power>Panel Self Refresh and turning it off for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In".

My Surface Pro 7 is no longer freezing!

Regarding Pro X Just like an Apple ipad you can't install apps like a desktop Windows computer.  Search in Youtube video.  It shows the pros and cons of the Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 7.
