Surface Pro 3 short battery life

I was wondering if I have a defective unit. I have an i5 surface pro 3 and I only get about 4 hours of battery life playing YouTube videos at about 40 % brightness and about 5 hours of web browsing.  The computer shuts off when I am just below 10 % battery left. What are you guys getting?

    Unbelievable.  I have exactly the same experience.  The canned solution of refreshing the device is both stupid and insulting.   The Surface Pro 3' battery life is no where near the advertised 9 hours, even if all you do is browse the internet.   Microsoft should just acknowledge that and save many us of the time and effort of trying to figure out if something is wrong with our devices.

    Yep.  4 1/2 hours.  Same here. I NEVER had anywhere near the  life that has been claimed by MS.  I bought my wife a Surface Pro 3 with the i5 CPU thinking that would improve battery life for her.

    Nope.  Same as me.

    Hi,

    I did perform a reset of the computer, then I performed a small test, here are the details of the test:

    1. Freshly 'reset' Surface Pro 3. (Fully Charged)
    2. Only MS Office installed
    3. All updates installed
    4. Brightness set to 25%
    5. Bluetooth OFF, Location OFF, Adaptive brightness control OFF.
    6. Auto-refreshed msn.com page in internet explorer every 30 seconds to simulate browsing experience

    Computer hibernated due to low battery in exactly 4 hours 31 minutes.

    I have taken screenshots showing all the steps and thus have proof of what happened.

    This has been the problem with my surface since the day it came. I was just busy too perform to perform this test and prove it once and for all that there is a problem.

    Can I ask for a replacement device based on this?

    (please don't give me that link about how to take care of your battery without reading what I did right now)

    I went through the link. It shows me how to charge and use my surface on battery power. I use it the same way.

    What do you suggest I do?
