Split from this thread.

I was wondering if I have a defective unit. I have an i5 surface pro 3 and I only get about 4 hours of battery life playing YouTube videos at about 40 % brightness and about 5 hours of web browsing.  The computer shuts off when I am just below 10 % battery left. What are you guys getting?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Jordi

    Hi Clare,

I used IE as my default browser. And Hyper-V is disabled.

I was hoping an upgrade to Windows 10 might solve my issues because it is essentially a refresh. However, I still have the same problems of high battery drain :(

(I did run the power troubleshooter by the way and it did not help)

    Hi Munjal Savla,

Thank you for replying back with more details. What browser are yo using? Will you observe the same thing if you are using IE? Is Hyper-V feature on on your device?

Please try the following solution to see if it helps:

    • Run Power troubleshooting
      1. Go to Desktop and swipe from right to Charms
      2. Tap Control Panel and choose Troubleshooting
      3. Choose View All on the leftand choose Power
      4. Tap Advanced and check Apply repairs automatically
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions and click Next

After that, if the issue continues, you might have to consider doing a refresh.

    Kind regards,

    Clare

    11:53:47 Active Battery 77 % 32,080 mWh
    14:01:10 Connected standby Battery 12 % 5,221 mWh

    Hi Clare,

The battery drop was experienced in the 'Active' session. The computer started being active at 11.53.47 and battery was at 77%. Then at 14.01.10, the computer went into connected standby mode at a battery charge level of 12%.

Thus, the device used 65% of battery in 2 hours and 8 minutes of being active.

During this time, the device was just being used to surf the internet.

As I have said, this browsing was mainly reading articles on sites which DON'T have heavy advertising.
