bluethooth mouse breaks wireless connection

I originally posted this here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1_pr-hardware/wifi-keeps-dropping-on-my-surface-kills-bluetooth/96faf92c-41af-4611-b5c2-c52702a3f241

Anyway, after a few reinstalls. I still have the same issue on my surface pro. When I go a few days without using my Microsoft Sculpt comfort Mouse, I have no problems. When I do use it, I get a total breakdown of wireless connections.  First my mouse stops responding. Then wifi drops, normally theres a lag before I see it show up on the wifi icon in the system tray. When I click it, it shows 'No connections are available', followed by 'troubleshoot' The only fix is to reboot, which it won't ever do properly after this error. I always have to hold the power button down and do a manual reset.

I also have random times when the Bluetooth goes out but comes back on. This can take about a minute to happen. When this happens, the wifi stays on.  I also have a lot of lag in the mouse while downloading/streaming anything from the internet.

Obviously this is Windows 8.1, running on a Surface Pro, using a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon!

Thanks,

Kevin

First, apologies if the thread has become confused. My particular problem was the Surface Pro 3 (win 8.1) losing the connection to the MS Universal keyboard. It works fine at home, and failed here at work. I spoke to the guy who runs our wireless, changed my WiFi connection to 5Ghz, and it now works reliably.

So I take it back, Microsoft DO seem to have implemented a wireless solution where the Bluetooth and WiFi can't play together nicely. The router is still broadcasting 2.4 GHz, so it seems the Surface Pro's receiver isn't selective enough, or its transmitter is bleeding.

My thanks to those on the forum who raised this. I like the keyboard enough so I'll keep it and accept that it wont work on a 2.4Ghz WiFi.

Now how Do I tell Amazon to cancel my return...?

that looks to be a generic statement applying to a range of products that this

"Product Guide" might have been written for.

    Wireless Frequency Bluetooth 3.0

Wireless Range 10 meters (33 feet) typical. Note: RF range is affected by many

factors, such as nearby metallic objects and relative positioning of the mouse

    Barb Bowman,

Yes I know there is interference. Hence why you can change the channel. Did you mean to reply to me or was that meant for someone else?

I wanted to ask you a question. After reading the keyboard documentation it says it is licensed to broadcast at the 5.15 to 5.25 GHz. Do you know why? Does it use Bluetooth and/ or the devices wifi NIC? I am guessing you are a networking or hardware person and know more about this then me.

Documentation for WHICH keyboard (and link to docs you read)? There are too many devices being discussed in this thread at this point. I can't tell who is using what exact keyboard at this point.

    LegacyOfHerot,

You are correct it does use a radio to communicate. I use a Wacom pen all day long. It doesn't have batteries and it connects to the digitizer directly via magic I think ;). Still trying to figure out what range the keyboard operates. The tech specs usually say but it didn't and it had an odd comment that it uses 5.xx Ghz.

If you have a surface pen around it when it isn't working take the batteries out and unpair it to see if that frees up the keyboard

I am a programmer so hardware and networking are not my area.
