i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

I am considering this. I only bought it on Saturday, so not much to lose. Hope it will not be in vain.

ALso display wont come up after. Need to keep hold the power button to turn it off completely.  Now thinking of selling the surface pro 4.  My 2000 bucks is gone. So disappointed after buying this laptop

I had something similar happen this past Sunday (yes, after the February updates), though the screen came back on in my case. Put it to sleep (or so I thought) and a few hours later it was very warm to the touch and battery had drained about 60% over 2.5 hours. Only had Chrome and Outlook 2016 open. I saw a number of ACPI embedded controller events in the system log. I have the i7/256/8 config. Clearly hibernate is still the way to go.

Edit:  meant to add, after the 2/17 updates I did a complete wipe/install using the latest drive image from MS and reinstalled everything. Had hoped that would be beneficial.

    Hello!

May I ask what troubleshooting steps you have tried?

    Kind regards
