i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    How do you put the SP4 to sleep?  By closing the type cover, or from the Start/Power menu?

    In this case, it was by closing the cover (I had to run to a meeting). Thinking about it now, that's the only time it ever does this. I should be more mindful of putting it to sleep from the menu for now, I guess.

    I suspected you had closed the type cover to sleep the device.  The only time I ever had a "hot" sleep was when I did that too. And the subsequent sleep study showed continuous CPU activit during sleep and excessive battery loss. (That heat had to come from some where.)  I now take great care to sleep the device from the power menu and have never had the issue since.

    Microsoft please take note!  Sleeping by closing the SP4 type cover does not work.
