My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

I assume the "Stay connected to wifi while asleep" has no effect on an Ethernet connection? If it is docked with an Ethernet connection, is it possible that the internet is keeping it hot?
So, I use my Surface 4 for the usual: emails, some documents, internet browsing, nothing too serious. However, almost every time I close the Surface, it runs very hot and then shuts down all my open documents and programs. Fan keeps running hard, even once all the programs are closed (Task Manager says nothing is open).
It also runs down the battery entirely every time this happens.
How do I fix this? So far I'm really unimpressed with the poor battery life of the Surface and then fact that I lose my documents every time I flap closed it!
Instead of "closing the Surface" put it to sleep in the Start/Power menu. There seems to be an issue where closing the keyboard can cause the SP4 to not sleep properly producing heat and severe battery loss. Make sure the device is fully asleep before you close the Surface Pro keyboard cover.
Got surface book last week..did this yesterday..today 5 hours of nothing more than a word document and wi fi..and not non stop and battery at 17%. What next?
