i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

    Here is the report:

8% battery drain from 70% to 62% in 1hr 17min. Looks like the updates are not working me.

Hi all, sadly after applying the 2/17 update, I still continue to have the following problems...

    1. When I click on the battery icon, the remaining hours are erratic. Sometimes I see 59 minutes and within few minutes it goes to 2 hours and 30 some minutes.
    2. While charging cover closed and in sleep mode, the battery was heating up.
    3. The battery drains significantly during the sleep mode cover closed up.
    4. When fully charged it is displaying that it can run only for 5 hours and 30 some minutes. I thought it should be something like 8+ hours.

Still love my surface, but it is really affecting the day to day usage. Have switched back to hibernate options. Any help from surface team is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I have the same No2 issue.

I didn't attach the cover type but it was heating up when charging as well.
