i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

This is called Fast Startup and you don't need to disable through the Registry. It's available in the control panel,

    Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings

I turn this feature off on all windows devices.

Kindly: what are the cons if I uninstall the fast startup option from the computer?

Another case here of surface consuming 25% or more of battery while in "sleep".

    i5, 8gb 256SSD model.

Like people have experienced here, percentages shown in a sleepstudy are roughly:

    Intel HD Graphics: 16%

    CPU C0: 13%

Becoming more and more disappointed with the surface on a daily basis. Issues so var:

    -Massive power consumption while asleep.

-hyperV completely killing WiFi if installed at all(disabling doesnt fix the issue).

    -Edge & mail crashes constantly.

-wifi not always working unless the dock is plugged in a particular way.

all from a 3 week old 1700 euro machine.

Most of the time I have similar

    "

    Intel HD Graphics: 16%

    CPU C0: 13%

    "

battery drain result in sleep mode. However sometimes, it shows

    "

Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller Networking 41% 0:45:04
Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller (\\_SB.PCI0.RP09.PXSX) Fx Device 29% 0:31:52

    "

Seems the Wifi is also on sometimes during sleep, even I set it to off when sleeping in the power configuration

    Very strange

My surface pro 4 drains battery while sleeping and even when it is shut down. My surface still had battery left before I shutdown, however, when I tried to turn it on few days later, it was totally dead. The engine continues to run even when I put my surface to sleep and the surface would be hot after some time, battery would be flat in an hour's time.

Overall, battery is draining too fast and surface requires charging every time I need to use. When would this problem be solved and can it be solved ?
