i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Surface pro 4 was put to sleep for 7+ hours last night.

On checking the SleepStudy report it consumed over 25% of the battery while supposedly asleep.

Top consumers during this period are:

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 520(\_SP.PCI0.GFX0) - 16%

    CPU C0 Time -13%

I updated the surface with the latest drivers only 2 days ago so im wondering if this is a known issue and if there is a fix?

Another case here of surface consuming 25% or more of battery while in "sleep".

    i5, 8gb 256SSD model.

Like people have experienced here, percentages shown in a sleepstudy are roughly:

    Intel HD Graphics: 16%

    CPU C0: 13%

Becoming more and more disappointed with the surface on a daily basis. Issues so var:

    -Massive power consumption while asleep.

-hyperV completely killing WiFi if installed at all(disabling doesnt fix the issue).

    -Edge & mail crashes constantly.

-wifi not always working unless the dock is plugged in a particular way.

all from a 3 week old 1700 euro machine.

Same issues here.  i fully charge the device, then TURN THE DEVICE OFF and leave it in a bag.   Two days later, the device is at 1% battery.

This should NOT happen.  It IS an issue and needs a fix FROM MICROSOFT.    NOW.

If you are shutting down the device, AND then losing charge, then I would try turning off Fast Startup. What might be happening is that the device is trying to save its state, and can't, so it sits there spinning sucking up battery life.
