i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    Please show me where Microsoft has acknowledged there is a battery issue with hibernate (not sleep). I could have missed it.

    Had the new SP4 for about 2 weeks now. After initial problems with the pen (now resolved) I can't seem to stop the device from massively overheating (fear of actually setting fire to the papers in my bag and/or breaking some components in the device itself...) and the fan wurring at 10,000rpm within only a few minutes of closing the device up/putting it to sleep.

    This of course also drains the battery meaning I have to carry my charger around everywhere I go... not very good for a 'portable' device. I've reviewed the troubleshooting online and various other forum threads (interestingly found out that this was a big issue in earlier models and the surface book too, which is surprising since Microsoft has then gone and released a brand new one without seemingly fixing anything...) and so far I have not found a solution.  I have run the systemcfg checks and returned nothing useful. I have also checked CPU usage, which has one program "Service Host: Local System (16)" apparently using consistently ~30% of the CPU. I presume this is the problem although I'm not certain and I have no idea how to reduce this %.

    I am not a heavy user (or a very experienced one) but I do use it daily for work taking notes in meetings and writing to-do lists via OneNote - otherwise I am just doing usual web browsing, outlook, word, adobe reading, etc. I have what I thought should be a fairly overpowered device for this usage level: the 256GB i5, 8GB RAM model. I use the keyboard as a cover and so it is almost 100% of the time attached.

    It doesn't go crazy and overheat if I turn the whole device off (you would hope not!)... but that is not very convenient as I need to open it quickly throughout the day during meetings. Tempted whether to send the whole thing back and ask for a refund to be honest as I can't see myself getting used to such a fatal flaw in the design...

    Any solutions? Don't fancy calling Microsoft support again - took me 2 weeks and a lot of wasted time on the phone just to get a replacement pen...
