My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,
We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks for letting me know that there isn't anyone here worth talking to. I'll move on.
I finally bit the bullet and contacted Microsoft support via chat. After extensive troubleshooting, most of what I had already done, the agent finally acknowledged the following towards the end of the chat even though I had specifically asked the question at the beginning of the chat:
ME: Are there reports of this issue in your knowledge base?
Microsoft Agent: Yes we have it in our knowledge base and I would like to assure you that we are aware of it and Microsoft is currently in the process of developing updates that will fix this issue. We are to release new updates that will enhance the performance of the device specifically with the battery.
Me: When is the fix expected?
Microsoft Agent: We don't have specific date yet but I will personally monitor it for you and will send you follow up emails about it. I'm gonna make sure that you'll be one of the first valued customers who will get this update once it's available.
Further, the overheating issue was confirmed to be related:
Me: One more thing -- we didn't discuss the fact that the device gets far hotter than usual, but my research show that is a result of the battery issue we've discussed. Is that true?
Microsoft Agent: Yes that's correct. Since the battery consumption is not normal than before, it affects the fan to run faster and release a heat.
So this is at least a formal, now written acknowledgement of the issue, something that is only hinted at in another thread on the forum by who know.
Too bad about profanity-laced post by another person. I reported it, but last check it is still in the thread. That's why this post is a reply to theirs.
Thanks for the info. I read in another forum that one rolled back the display driver version to an older date (July) and that the drain rate in that case was back to the 500 mW or roughly 1% per hour. I haven't tried doing that yet.
Additionally, Intel released a beta version of the display driver yesterday. Hopefully something will come along soon for Surface devices.

I see the beta on the Intel download site, plus two prior copies. I wish I knew if the 9/28/2015 or the 10/26/2015 is the one that is pre-Windows 10 1511. The driver versions are not the same. The SP4 is showing the 1511 version as a 10/27/2015 driver with version 20.19.15.4308. Intel reports the 10/26/2015 version as 15.40.10.4300. Maybe Intel's 9/28/2015 is the pre-1511 equivalent?
If you get brave and load the beta driver, please post how it goes.
