i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

I was having the problem nearly every time I would put the computer to sleep.  I finally set the surface to hibernate when closing the lid, rather than sleeping.

Since I installed the Windows 10 anniversary update a few days ago, I decided to give 'sleep' one more chance - setting the surface back to going to sleep when closing the lid.  Since that time I have not had one hot-bag incident or any problems with rapid battery drain during sleep mode.  Granted, it has only been a few days, but this gives me a glimmer of hope.

Let me know if anyone else has had good/bad experiences with sleep after the anniversary update.

I generally have not had the Sleep problem in any consistent fashion, just sporadically.  But yesterday, I put it to sleep (and had just restarted it for other reasons in the evening), and in the morning, the docked screen was showing a pattern, and my Surface was rather warm, requiring a restart with the power button/volume button method.

This problem is sporadic so I don't know what to make of it, and I hesitate to return it to the store when I can't demonstrate it.  I am overall happy with it, but I must say, I don't quite trust it like I do my work Dell laptop for going to sleep soundly.

I'm also noticing it won't wake up with the mouse movement all the time, and I do CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the screen for my PIN.  It's not a restart, but seems like a waking issue.

I have the same problem with i7/256GB after update. I also noticed that the fan is excessively louder than usually and the battery drains very quickly. It drained 30% of battery in just 20 minutes of use. Also the screen gets extremely hot to use.
