My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Me, too, Carlos. I'm using Core M SP4, not any major issues with it until latest update. Battery drains quickly and they have succeeded in making my SP4 heat up my bag just like my old SB was before I sold it. Please please please fix this and stop fiddling with it.
Interesting, my SP4 is just over one month old and I'm having the same overheating while in sleep issues, and when I check the update log I find "failed to install" for both of those updates mentioned above. I have an m3 processor.
Absolutely correct. The reason MS doesn't address this properly is that unmaking garbage is hard to do. I have a 256gb i5 SP4 and a Samsung Tab Pro S running Win 10 and the Tab Pro S runs Windows better than this SP4. Microsoft has proven again hardware is not there specialty. When the SP5 comes out I won't make the mistake of buying it even if the reviews lie through the roof. I find the SP4 annoying and MS can't fix it regardless of how many remote desktop troubleshooting sessions they try.
I just puted my Surface Pro 4 i7 256 on my side, only closing the keyboard to sleep mode, without hibernating or exiting. It had lots of ventilation around, it was not on direct sunlight or either executing any task, but it had a Word page open and 5 internet pages open. When I pulled it up to work again, it was so hot that it almost burn and the computer cooling fan started working to cool the equipment. I don't think this should happen!
