i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    You are so wrong! Whether it should or should not be the case is irrelevant.  The fact is that you were lucky that the MacBook pro never came out of sleep while in the sleeve.  If it had it would have been toast, literally.  I have given good prudent advice, if you choose to ignore it that's your privilege and your disaster waiting to happen.  I have seen many laptops ruined in this manner during my long career in IT.  I hope others will see the logic in my advice and the risks in your reply.

    Sorry, but that's shouldn't be the case. I put a sleeping MacBook Pro in a sleeve for YEARS and never had it come out hot or lose ANY battery life. (If this were the case, you'd see warning labels everywhere!) Microsoft has some work to do with Intel on Power Mgmt.

    Also, I own both a dGPU SB and fanless core M SP4 and neither do the hot bag thing when sleeping or hibernating. (The SB used to, but no more. I've tried both since the last update, but I did turn off Fast Startup on SB to see if it helps battery drain and Windows Hello issue, now resolved with latest update.) My issue is battery drain on the SB. The fanless SP4 has been amazing!

    Just a word of caution!  Anyone putting a sleeping sp4 in a sleeve where all ventilation is cut off is asking for overheating damage.  Never, never put your sp4 in a sleeve unless you have used Shut Down or Hibernate.  Even if Microsoft eventually solves the sleep power issue you should never put any sleeping laptop in an UN-ventilated sleeve or case. Hopefully you have not been doing this.
