i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    I followed the instructions to correct the file system corruption.  I have not had a hot-bag / power drain issue since I did this on the 16th.  Things are looking up!

    On a side note:  A while ago I had to uninstall the I-Heart-Radio app as it would never let my computer enter a sleep state.  (Now I just use the web site).  I would have a drain of 2-3% per hour because of that app.  Now I'm seeing less than 1%/hour.

    No, that's about what you'll get. An iPad doesn't have a full featured OS like a Surface device does, therefore with iOS or Chrome OS you draw less battery life. The Surface will never have the battery life that another light featured OS tablet will have since it's basically an entire PC functionality on a tablet. To compare the two

    is outright craziness. An iPad is just a media consumption device. If you want an iPad buy an iPad. As time goes on, battery life will improve with newer revisions. For right now, about 4-6 is what we're all getting.

    Hey Josh,

    I just got my Surface Pro 4 yesterday (03/18/2016) and have ensured all the proper updates have been installed. However, I am having major power issues. My surface pro doesn't seem to hold a charge for very long.

    For instance, I grabbed it today at 10:00 AM fully charged and used it off and on until about 3:00 and at that point it was nearly dead. I streamed video for about an hour, but other than that I've just been using it normally. In that 5 hour time frame there w's at least 1.5 hours where I wasn't using it at all and it was in hibernation.

    I've read several articles and tips on saving battery life and tried to implement those but they don't seem to be helping. I even have Cortana turned completely off..

    Could it be that I have a defected battery? Is there any way for me to check this without taking it to a store?

    I bought this to replace my iPad, but so far it hasn't come anywhere near the iPad in terms of battery.

    I have the Surface Pro 4 - Intel i7 - 8GB RAM - 256GB Storage.

    At least for me, the Intel Beta Graphics driver 15.40.20.4404 has solved the heating issue while SP4 i5/256/8 is in sleep mode and the black screen after sleep issue completely.
