i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    Just to follow, this is my connected standby session from last night, the two hours before it slips into hibernate  (essential due to me having an additional issue where the SP4 won't wake if left for many hours in CS).

    My SP4 128/4 has same problem waking from hibernation after I put it into Sleep Mode previous night. I can't even find out how to have the option of hibernation as its not available on the power button menu.

    Think I'll just have to turn it off at night till MS come up with a solution!!!!

    Going to see the MS sales guy I bought it from this Friday so it is flagged for solving.

    Same here. I did a clean install from the SP factory image on a USB stick, and then applied the windows updates. Note - the reason I chose to do a clean install from the image is so that I wouldn't lose Drawboard PDF. A Win 10 ISO doesn't include it, for free anyway. Drawboard comes for free with the SP 4 devices.

    Anyway, my first CS session only showed 550 mW used the first time. I was excited for a short time. However, all subsequent CS sessions after that use about 1500 to 1600 mW, and consistently, it's 16% for GPU and 12% for CPU.

    I'm very curious to hear what MS has to say about this.

    Hi everyone,

    did the clean install with an ISO-USB stick last night (TH2) and just installed the SP 4 Pro drivers.

    Unfortunately, the battery drain remains.

    I thought with SP4 I'd get a product with perfect software/hardware integration... it really is annoying to realize that SP4 is no better or even worse than any other Windows computer that suffers from bad firmware, bad drivers and overall bad integration with the operating system.

    Let us know what your results are. I know my drain rate in CS is around 1500mW, which is close to if not the same as the drain rate when the device is active. I may as well be leaving the damn thing switched on :(
