i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

    WIndows (automatic) Update is now finding this release, and although the Surface update history page discusses a 2/17/2016 update the latest update available for download it the 1/28 file (as of the time of this post).

    Also, these two items' device drivers apparently are incorrectly listed on the update page.  Version v8.20.0.877 installed, not v8.20.0.866.

    • Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) Audio Controller driver update (v8.20.0.866) improves system stability.
    • Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) OED driver update (v8.20.0.866) improves system stability.

    EDIT:  Microsoft correcrted the 866 typos.  Maybe they do read these forums.

    A new observation.  Today I had my SP4 undocked, unplugged for a couple hours in SLEEP, and it did not feel warm.  If I can reproduce that, it tells me that the warmth is coming from being plugged and/or docked.  Anyone have thoughts on what that would mean in terms of a cause for it to get warm during sleep?
