i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Since you bought it yesterday, you should be able to return for a full refund. I

suspect it will take a while for Microsoft to fully fix this issue. I'm an

unpaid volunteer, like all Community Moderators, MVP's, and I feel the device

was released before it was ready. But there's nothing I can do except tell

people to return it or wait until some unspecified future date when a possible

update will arrive to improve things.

I completely agree Barb. But this is not a 3 usd chinese tablet. It is a toy that costed me 2415 euro yesterday with the HUUUUGE promise of 9 hours battery life. I was a Macbook Air guy for 7 years. I am starting to miss my Macbook... and only 24 hours passed so far.

If this keeps going on my company will end up switching back to Mac and will open a lawsuite against Microsoft... and of course i will get mine since i conviced them all to switch !!!

Unfortunately, almost everyone is reporting this, for example https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro4-surfperf/i5256-surface-pro-4-overheats-and-battery-drains/045497f8-1ece-49b2-aeaa-8aa10994a277 - if you search this forum for "battery" you will see many threads about this.

The best you can do is make sure you have installed all available updates from Windows Updates.

Microsoft is working on this, and it is unknown when a fix will be available. Sorry.

    Dear Microsoft,

I was told that the surface pro 4 has 9 hours battery life. Little was I surprised to see that it does not even arrive to 3. What should I do?

I can send you the html file with the battery report.

    Thank you
