i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Fully shutting the SP4 down (rather than sleeping or hibernating) with the keyboard either open or not attached stops battery drain.  The boot time is 8-9 seconds for me, so although it is not optimal it is a workaround that is practical.

That said, where is the "reported" fix for this that was supposed to be out on 1/19/2016?

I love the surface pro 4 but the battery issue is terrible. I lose 50 - 60% battery overnight, this is just useless when I travel as I need to charge it every 12 hours even if not in use. Even with it switched off Im losing a huge amount of battery overnight.

I have all the latest updates and tried all the fixes I found online. If they dont sort this soon Ill be returning it to Microsoft.
