My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,
We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

There was 2 drivers in my system. I uninstalled the one with the longer title and rebooted and it reinstalled itself. Actually the 12/17 update came 2 days apart. I conducted one myself and nothing changed on my system battery so the next day I called tec support and we checked and there was another hardware update dated for 12/17 waiting. I have no idea how to obtain links to windows updates. By the way, I confirmed this morning that the battery issue is completely gone now.
Thank your for this information. Could you please post the version, date and exact name of the battery driver from device manager? That would really help.
This is called Fast Startup and you don't need to disable through the Registry. It's available in the control panel,
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings
I turn this feature off on all windows devices.
I have the same battery drain issue. SP4 i5, 256/8. Changed to hibernate instead of sleep. It is little better. Has Microsoft confirmed that it is due to Windows Hello? I do have them turned on which is pretty neat feature.
Too many problems for such a premium device with a premium price!!! I had to return my first unit since it's touch became spotty within a day. Then I ran into the battery drain issue. Then I figured Maps do not display roads, which is a known issue.
Is anyone testing these products before general availability or was it rushed?
I have never used Windows Hello. It has never been enabled. My SP4 has the sleep battery drain issue. It is not a Windows Hello issue.
Well; I was really doubting that anything will be done to repair the battery issue before I returned my SP4 but yesterday I called Microsoft and behold; the tech actually assisted me to repair the issue. There was a hardware update awaiting install and after we installed the update and the tech reinstalled my battery drivers it looks like things are as they should be when the system is in standby and hibernate. Actually there was 2 hardware updates pushed out and each of them was dated for December 17 so check and see if you have these updates installed or awaiting install. Not sure what cured it, the updates, the battery driver reset or both!
I have been monitoring the system for about 18 hours and it has not dropped any percentages due to hibernate or sleep mode. Of course this did not suddenly give the overall battery performance much improvement as I think the battery performance is dependent on how you use the device. For me I like bright screens so I cannot count on anything over 4 hours for my use. Kudos for Microsoft
