i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

I have the same battery drain issue. SP4 i5, 256/8. Changed to hibernate instead of sleep. It is little better. Has Microsoft confirmed that it is due to Windows Hello? I do have them turned on which is pretty neat feature.

Too many problems for such a premium device with a premium price!!! I had to return my first unit since it's touch became spotty within a day. Then I ran into the battery drain issue. Then I figured Maps do not display roads, which is a known issue.

Is anyone testing these products before general availability or was it rushed?

I am having the same issues. When in "sleep" mode, the battery drains in hours. I always find the computer blazing hot in its sleeve. Also it doesn't matter how long it is shut, it will never go into hibernate. This is a pro4 i5/256. Before this I had the pro 3 and never experienced this issue. It could go weeks without being charged.

I have since changed all the setting to hibernate which helps with the battery drain but is a real pain to not have the quick on. This is a major flaw that needs to get fixed. Please fix my favourite device!!
