My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

The biggest issue that I think people aren't paying attention to is that the surface pro 4 uses battery while in hibernation!
Check the battery report when it hibernates. Between suspended state and active state, it typically uses about 150 mwh per HOUR.
Therefore, even though we can limit battery drain from putting the device into hibernation, there is still battery loss, which should not occur in hibernation since the device is supposed to be powered off.
I have not seen Microsoft even acknowledge this issue, even though there are reddit threads about it.
Well, I have been on the phone with Microsoft twice now and nobody told me it was a know issue. In my opinion this is a basic functionality that should be thoroughly tested before releasing the surface. I might return it in the next days if it keeps bothering me
I have set hibernate enabled from the start/power button. It's clear from the batteryreport that something is using mwh's between when the device is suspended and when it is active again.
I just cannot figure out what it is.
This is a well documented issue. Microsoft is aware of it and is working on a fix for early next year, which is good news. I was going to return it because of it, but knowing that it's just a bug and not a hardware issue, I'll keep it! I think that's my only big issue. All the little things will get ironed out. Just give it a little time.
