i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hmm, dinner and a movie. From 8pm to 11:30pm it went down 8%. Stupid connected standby. Has anyone tried this way to disable it?

    Q. How do I disable Connected Standby on a device?

    A. If a device supports Connected Standby, you should take advantage of that capability. Only modern applications that are registered can send a limited amount of network traffic at a scheduled interval, which means Connected Standby generally offers only benefits. However, if you want to use basic sleep instead of Connected Standby, you can disable the feature as follows:

    1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
    2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power.
    3. Double-click CsEnabled and set to 0, then click OK.

I'd like to actually get decent battery life from my device :P haha.

But, thankfully, this time it didn't get warm at all! Before this flash, it would be warm and lose 5% every 5-10 minutes. Now it lost 8% over a period of nearly three and a half hours!

I'd like to be able to start with a Surface pro image prior to the Threshold 2 update. I should have saved it. Prior to TH2, my drain rate was better, only 550 mW per hour, as opposed to the 1500 now :(

I would notice the same after a full charge. The first standby session shows no drain. The next goes back to usual 4% for me :(
