i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

    SurfacePro4_BMR_155_2.114.0

That's the one I downloaded today from the Surface website. It came with TH installed, because as soon as I turned it on it asked me to set up Windows Hello, which wasn't offered out of the box when I received it on Thursday Nov 19th.

    Kent,

Can you reverify the version? Open a CMD prompt and type

    winver

    Just for you, Barb ;)

Does anyone know if it is possible to download an older version of the Surface BMR (older than 15_2.114.0)?

The version I have is SurfacePro4_BMR_15_2.114.0, which I downloaded on the 13th. I've tried resetting/restoring from that image, but the battery drain isn't different. Maybe it's worth trying again?

It's still early, but normally in 5 - 10 minutes of standby, I get 5% battery drain. I just booted it up and I had 100% still. So... I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

In regards to your question, I'd say it's worth it if you have time. But if you'd like to wait a day or so, I'll get back to you tomorrow and tell you how it's been working for me!
