My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks for the info. I read in another forum that one rolled back the display driver version to an older date (July) and that the drain rate in that case was back to the 500 mW or roughly 1% per hour. I haven't tried doing that yet.
Additionally, Intel released a beta version of the display driver yesterday. Hopefully something will come along soon for Surface devices.
Yes, if you have 1%/h that is "ok" again... Sadly 1% drain per hour is normal in Windows 10, never had any better since Windows 10 came out, making me really angry, and I am close to switch back to Windows 8.1, where I had a drain of 0.3% per hour!! Battery life is the most important thing on a mobile device, and Microsoft even claimed that Windows 10 should drain less than Windows 8, or even give options for power saving like turning off background services or such, which was totally a lie.
I'd like to throw my name into this as well, seeing that I'm having this issue. Over 5 minutes in sleep the tablet lost about 5%! It was warm in some areas. So I decided to remove Windows Hello for now and we'll see if that fixes it. Hopefully Microsoft will release something soon. We all spent a bunch of cash on a device that can barely hold a charge without using it in sleep mode xD haha.
Some of us have established that Windows Hello has nothing to do with this issue. In my case, I was not even using it -- it had never been enabled. However, in the interest of troubleshooting I enabled it, then disabled it. There was no improvement. However, your experience may be different.
To get beyond this issue until Microsoft gets their act together to solve it (or one of us has a better workaround (like the beta Intel video driver that may fix it) I've done a system restore to a point just after the 1511 update. I set Windows update to prompt me for updates but not install them until I tell it to. And I won't be touching the Windows updates screens until Microsoft has a fix. I'll just dismiss the notifications. I can get the important updates -- the Windows Defender definition updates -- from within the Windows Defender interface.
I'll continue to monitor posts to see if/when Microsoft issues the fix. Until then, NO WINDOWS UPDATE!

I see the beta on the Intel download site, plus two prior copies. I wish I knew if the 9/28/2015 or the 10/26/2015 is the one that is pre-Windows 10 1511. The driver versions are not the same. The SP4 is showing the 1511 version as a 10/27/2015 driver with version 20.19.15.4308. Intel reports the 10/26/2015 version as 15.40.10.4300. Maybe Intel's 9/28/2015 is the pre-1511 equivalent?
If you get brave and load the beta driver, please post how it goes.
