i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Open RegEdit and search for the key CsEnabled - you'll find it, Or

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

Change the CsEnabled key from 1 to 0.

Looks like you can turn off fast startup in control panel, if desired:

Power options, choose what the power buttons do, change setting unavailable.

There is a checkbox that toggles fast startup.

Keep in mind that you are probably using hybrid sleep and don't know it. What I mean by that is that when you shutdown, you really don't. You'll want to disable Fast Startup if you truly want to shutdown completely, and you will then find that startup is slower....

Ah I had forgotten that.  So "Hybrid Sleep" is really what I'm doing which is why the startup time is so short.  I'll keep using that until Microsoft fixes the thing they mucked up with the latest update.

Has anyone heard anything recently from Microsoft?  The last I read was that they were working it...sigh...

Disabling CS will remove the Sleep option all together, but you will find that you have more options available to you in your power profile configurations.

Can you provide the CS hack?

Why is a hack needed to disable connected standby? Sleep can be disabled (change the close lid option to do nothing and sleep time to never) and a hibernate time may also be set.
