Remote Desktop Connetion displays Very Small Icons and Jump Lists on Remote Machine

On my remote machine, the desktop icons, icon titles, taskbar and jump lists are puny, very difficult to read the small font size.

I've tried all of the various display/sizing options in my Surface's control panel, and also the display setting tab in Remote Desktop Connection, and have not found any comnbination that works well on the remote and Surface Pro 3. (Also, the sizing options are not so convenient anyway since a sign out is generally needed.)

 I've never had this problem and regularly use RDP on various machines. Are there others with RDP display issues?

    After further usage, I realized that signing out of the remote before the next remote session only has helped me when logging into Win 8.1.

    Without having tried the Win 7 dpi fix, I just remoted into Win 7 after signing out of the Win 7 machine. The icons and task bar appeared way too small.

    I am having same issues I can barley read my employer network files when logged in remotely yet the same files resident on my machine are NORMA & READABLE!!!!

    if Microsoft  don't have a patch OR AN ACCEPTABLE WORK AROUND for this by next week I will have to return my 2 week old surface Pro3 as this issue renders my machine useless as it was purchased for the specific task of connecting to my employers network. This machine was supposed to improve my productivity, IT HAS ACHIEVED NOTHING,

    Here's what I've been doing as a workaround (although not perfect, see below):

    Using normal SP3 settings connect using Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCM);

    Add a server (the remote machine);

    Under the server properties, Remote Desktop Settings tab, uncheck inherit from parent and select Full screen.

    Under display settings, uncheck Inherit from parent.

    After connecting, it may be necessary to sign out of remote and then reconnect using RDCM.

    At that point my display appears normal.

    However, modern/metro apps on the remote won't work when connecting with RDCM.

    I had to reply to your agreement here - with some thoughts.  I researched the heck out of this - as I bought one for one of the executives in our co. (I manage the I.T.).  and wanted to find a solution for the issue to expedite my own acquisition of one of these!  Well - didn't find a 'true' fix - but picked up an SP3 anyway as I found a work around that I've deemed "acceptable" - for me anyway - not ideal.  Basically - we access a couple applications through rdp - WHEN I want to use these on the SP3 - I just change the resolution of the desktop to 1366 X 768 or 1360 x 768.   Then the remote screen is 'normal' - of course exiting you get desktop icons the size of volkswagon beetles and need to change it back to the awesome high resolution of the device.  Anyway

    • just a thought.  I like the SP3 enough to do that - it's speed, power, features and sleek design in my opinion really is a plausible replacement for a business grade laptop.    It would benefit MSFT to provide an update that would handle this though - as many businesses run rdp applications - shame they can't render the display to whatever the remote server hosting the remote app is.  BTW - another thought - I had a second screen plugged into the SP3 USB port -  and the rdp display mirrored the second display
    • normal size fonts - but then again - would you really carry around a second display?!  However if you are working in an office/home office - perhaps that's an option - just plug it in and work away.  Hope this helps some.
