Surface Book 3 - The newest update has completely bricked my Surface Book 3. Is there any hope for me?

Hello, I am desperate for help. Microsoft "support" has told has no known solution. Thank you

Issue:

Since the latest Windows update, my computer will not turn on.

When attempting to power on, I receive the following error:

"Boot Error: Couldn't find a bootable operating system. Check the Boot Configuration to try to fix this"

Support told me to download a "Surface Recovery Image Download" from the website and extract the contents onto a 32gb Thumbdrive. I followed the instruction to boot up the computer with the thumdrive and select the "recovery option"

The computer begins to restart/recover process and immediately stops and goes to a blue screen that says the following:

"Reset this PC. There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made." the only option to select is cancel.

Here is where microsoft support says that they know no other solutions and they can only tell me that I no longer have a working computer. I must buy a new computer.

Looking for any help that they might have missed. The computer was working flawlessly before the update.

Details:

Update was the Morning of February 3rd, 2022. I was using my computer normally without a single issue. At about 10am I was prompted to begin the newest Windows update.

I have previously completed every update at the time I am prompted, so I believe I was up to date with all updates.

Device:

Surface Book 3 - 15 in. 512GB i7 32GB with GeForce

Thank you anyone that can help in advance.

My entire business workflow has been devastated. And because of the shortage in supply chain, I can not seem to find a comparable computer available for sale to replace mine

    hello Barb,

Thank you, but microsoft support is a nonstarter. Of coarse I would try it before posting here. I already said in my original post that I tried to contact support and they can not help.

Even if they could, support is unreachable and unresponsive at anytime. I have spent two days waiting on hold to be told there is no solution for me. I literally can not suffer the time down in my business to keep trying to reach someone.

I am so confident that support is unable to be reached, that if anyone can actually reach microsoft support and find a solution to this issue, all within 5 hours total time, I will pay that person $5,000. That is how extremely confident I am in the lack of support microsoft gives. Keep in mind I also pay premium for a business account.

Last week, the day the this update destroyed my computer for no reason, I submitted an urgent support request through my business account. I wasn't answered until the following day, and even then, only by email. The support did nothing but link me to microsoft FAQ pages that did nothing to solve my issue.

This screenshot is the last exchange with support before they closed my case.

I also continued to try solutions I found online and when I gave up and tried to send my computer in for a replacement through my account. Microsoft wouldnt even allow me to do that

    hello,

Thank you for your comment, it truly is nice to hear that it is not just me. I feel like I was losing my mind.

It appears microsoft is bricking computers on purpose to force new purchases. Maybe if we get enough other people sharing similar experiences, then we can present a class action case to a lawyer.

hello john, I sincerely appreciate the responses and help.

However, there is no option to contact support. I have been trying to about 24/7 for the last four days. The phone number tell you to go to the website. the website takes you in circles into the same few pages over and over again.

there is no support. that is why I am here in this forum in the first place.

Hi i have the same issue in the same date...they installed windows 11 as modernized OS as they sayed.

No more Ssd detected.. boot drive failure..i did the same steps as you did with Microsoft...my computer before the update was excellent conditions I did not touch any thing else ..this is a big huge disappointing actions done by Microsoft on my computer to put corrupt my enter work and computer..because of a bug coming from their side...I will put this issue in my clients red file to never trust updates updates from.Microsoft or even try to order laptops from Microsoft..this is a very cheap client support strategy ...
