wifi issues

I had an issue this morning where Surface couldn't find any wifi networks (when 5 were in the area) and it was connected the previous night. I solved this issue by searching windows rt for Network. Open Network Connections, find the wifi device and then disable this connection. After a minute - I re-enabled the connection and then it started to work.

Just wanted to share my experience if anyone runs into the same issue. Thanks!

Nate

Greetings everyone,

Thank you for your continued interest, feedback and assistance in investigating the Limited WiFi issue on the Surface.

Not all limited connectivity scenarios have solutions that can be controlled by the Wi-Fi drivers of a given device. Limited connectivity scenarios result from a complex interaction of device Wi-Fi drivers, access point firmware, access point configuration, and other environmental factors.

If following the steps in the provided links below fail to resolve your Wi-Fi issue I encourage you to create a new thread.

You will most likely have to do a REFRESH.  Most of us has had to do that.  For some reason or another the driver gets corrupted.  You may also do a trick that most others have done as well as long as you don't have the 8.1 Preview of Windows 8 RT installed.

That trick is to open the Control Panel and go do Device Manager.  Look for the Marvel WiFi adapter and "Uninstall" the driver but "DO NOT DELETE IT".  When finished, reboot the tablet and it should connect.

Try that trick first and if it doesn't work, then do a REFRESH.

Hello priscillaodendaal,

Sorry to hear you are having problems connecting to WiFi.

You should be able to connect to WiFi. Are you getting any errors when trying to connect? Are you able to see the networks and not connect to them?

Let us know.

Best regards.

Thanks for the suggestion, Martin, but without going back to that hotel, it'll be hard to tell if that's a fix.

I tried just about everything suggested in this thread except deleting the Marvell device in Device Manager.  I tried cold boots.  Tried "forgetting"  Tried connecting to another AP and then coming back to the hotel's.   Tried cycling in and out of Airplane Mode.  The problem was not losing Wi-Fi while sleeping.  It was connecting in the first place.  Like many hotel Wi-Fi's, in the room, I have to execute a logon script.  In the hotel lobby, I just had to check on the first page that comes up that I agree to terms of service.  So perhaps I am dissing Wi-Fi when it's really the handling of hotel web pages in IE10 or IE9 on the Surface.  The standard tech advice from the hotel was go to www.cnn.com, whereupon I was supposed to get redirected to the hotel's series of logon web pages (3 web pages in succession of agreeing to TOS, rates and payment method, then room identifying information and registrant's last name.  Even when I could see the hotel page's link replace www.cnn.com in the URL locator, the first page in the series usually would not come up.  I would usually get Connected with a yellow exclamation mark or Limited Connection to the hotel's 9th floor AP.  The hotel's tech would tell me "it says you're connected.  I don't know why you're not getting the logon page."  Not completing the hotel logon, I couldn't browse anywhere else, read e-mail, etc.  My Android phone would promptly get the web pages and allow me to complete the logon.
