surface book battery drain while shut down

It still happens me from time to time before and after the all the latest patches and the Window Anniversary update. And I think it could be due to some user errors. Sometimes while the SB is being shut down and just before the book is completely off, I accidentally touch the power button during folding it up or putting into my case cover, this I believe prevents the SB from shutting down completely, in other words it may cause it to stay awake!

So just make sure you need to see the book is completely off by giving it a few more seconds before slipping it to your case cover or putting it away.

After 10 months of trying to work around the issues on my Surface Book I have finally decided that enough is enough. Microsoft either cannot fix the problems on this device or doesn't care to. The overheating problem is gone, thankfully, but battery drain problem still exists. I unplugged in from my power adapter at work on Friday evening, put it to sleep and when I opened it Monday morning it did not have enough power to wake up. When I plugged it in and started it up the system had completely shut down (all apps were closed). Couple this with the fact that I can no longer plug in an external display and I am done. I've installed every update hoping that each will be the one that finally returns two of the most important capabilities back to my machine (I used to be able to use an external display and the battery life used to be decent - never as good as advertised). So I am done. I am fortunate that my employer will buy me a new machine because my productivity is important to them. I genuinely feel badly for having asked them to take a chance by buying me an unproven machine and then getting burned (thankfully not literally though some of the #hotbags I experienced felt like they were scary close to that) by the decision. I'm going back to a Lenovo because I know they work as advertised. Good riddance Microsoft. May this entire debacle hasten your decision to get out of the hardware business where you have no business being.

Do you work for Microsoft?  It's great that your  Surface is running so well but you're experience is frustrating, unhelpful, and irrelevant to those of us who are having the issue.

You managed to pick out a post I made 9 months ago for a comment? The state of the operating system has changed quite a bit from that time. 

Nine months ago connected standby was not working the way it should and I was getting no battery drain while completely turned off. I had to totally shut down overnight back then because Sleep/Hibernate didn't work at all.

Since the June 20th update Sleep/Hibernate is working like it should and connected standby is working like it should. I no longer totally shut down and Sleep/Hibernate is now reliable. There is a small battery drain while sleeping, just as there should be during connected standby. At this point in time I can easily get through a work day when away from my office and on battery.

I'm sorry you are having problems. Being an early adopter, from the day the Surface Book was first released, I've gone through the same frustrations as everyone else. Today my Surface Book is finally working the way it should have when I first got it.

My SB  still drains way to much battery in sleep. I have all the updates and even tried reinstalling windows from scratch. I have also have very unstable USB connection. Early adopter or not you expect something costs over $2000 work properly. Microsoft should have recalled those SB that are not working properly, offer free repair or exchange. If the same thing happens to your car, you'd expect the manufacture to do that. But MS is too cheap, and probably too "big" to care a few "early adopters".
