surface book battery drain while shut down

I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.

I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.

I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.

Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.

Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?

So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

    I've noticed the same thing. I really do get the advertised 3 hours on just the tablet portion when I'm reading papers (with battery saver on), but plug the "9 hour" keyboard in and I only get 6 hours total. It seems like it has to do with the connectivity of the two pieces.

    Also, the fact that I still have 100% battery overnight in hibernate, but land at ~96% if it's shut down, tells me that the "shut down drain" is not a natural effect of the battery self-discharging.

    So I decided to let my Surface Book hibernate from 3:00pm-11:30am. I lost only 2% on hibernate compared to it usually being 4-6% of battery life when my SB is completely shutdown for that period of time. I wonder why shut down is drawing more power.

    This is getting OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!

    I had my SB plugged in overnight with the Power OFF.  Not sleep or hibernate, OFF.

    Left hotel at 7:30am and didn't touch the machine the entire day.  Didn't need to.

    Back to the hotel.  6:30pm.  Battery is at 87%!!!!

    How do you lose 13% battery in less than 12 hours being totally powered OFF.  This makes ZERO sense, but then again, this entire SB experience has been the worst I have ever dealt with EVER.  Worse than my Palm Pre.  Worse than my last Blackberry I ever owned.  Worse than my 1st iPhone. 

    I will say this.  There is talk of class action lawsuit going around on other forums.  If something doesn't happen and happen soon, they will be paying dearly for this device that is half baked.  And it is HALF baked.

    I didn't drop $400 on some crappy tablet, although it's starting to feel that way.  I dropped $2100 on a productivity device that has made me literally LESS productive than ever before. 

    What an embarrassment.

    I'm wondering if the magnet used to hold the screen to the base is an electromagnet and uses the battery. if so, that is a terrible, terrible design flaw. I don't know if that's the case, but I can't think of how else the battery would drain while off.

    This magnet thing might have legs. My SB always drains when powered off. The last wo nights the lid has been left open and I had no power loss in my batteries. I am going to experiment a little more and will post again.
