surface book battery drain while shut down

Split from this thread.

I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.

I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.

I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.

Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.

Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?

So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

Hi, I just wanted to see who else has this issue because it seems like I've been reading about people having battery drain while completely shutdown, but they are always merged with posts that are mainly talking about battery drain while on sleep or hibernation.

I am one of those who are having battery drain on complete shutdown and it is very unsettling that after shutting down my computer completely I am losing 9~10% battery after 24 hours. This to me is a serious issue and I have brought this issue up with a technician through the online chat. I want to see if this issue is as wide spread as the drain on sleep/hibernation, because it seems that not many people shutdown their computers anymore and I am concerned it is easily getting overlooked as Microsoft only been addressed the battery drain upon sleep/hibernation.

Was your issue with the connected standby function or the issue that some Surface books still have battery drain when it is completely shut down? Or possibly both?

Today i lost 10% in battery life after having my computer shut down for 24 hours. Not sleep, not hibernate, shut down. I would show a screen cap of my battery report showing this, but I'm not sure how to on these forums. I just really hope this isn't an overlooked issue because I see a lot of people complaining about the connected standby but there are also users who experience battery drain upon full shut down

This was my case. A complete shutdown and battery loss of 8% in 24 hours.  Don't understand how that is even possible.

I reported this issue to a tech over the online chat. Apparently the tech I spoke with said no one else has reported any issues like this. It makes me wonder if they are overlooking this issue and pairing this with the battery drain upon sleep. I actually mentioned this concern to the tech and they have created a ticket and told me this would be sent to one of their engineers. I was even provided a reference number for the specific case.

I encourage anyone else who has the issue of battery drain upon complete shutdown to bring it up to a tech rep on the online chat. It would be a shame if this is an actual issue, but goes unnoticed because not many people "shutdown" their devices anymore.

Do a sleepstudy and you will see what happened.

I am not sure of the difference between "connected standy" and "complete shutdown."  What I have noticed on a brand new machine is invoking sleep and put machine in bag -- hours later it is very hot and battery drained down.  Not sure if this is also happening in sleep on my desktop on the charger -- how would you tell?
