I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.
I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.
I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.
Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.
Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?
So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

I've just go mine and the battery was completely dead when I first tried to power up, I knew something was wrong right away since most of the time laptops come with at least 30% or more of battery charge, for a moment I thought it was DOA , anyways I'm experiencing the same battery issues as many people are, I really like it so I'm giving MS 'til the end of my return window to fix this problem which I shouldn't , I paid good money for a product that should be flawless period.
After having this happen a few days ago, I did a test last night. This is not normally what I would do but it's a first test. I was using it as a laptop only, and plugged in the whole time, never detached the screen. At the end with the charge at 100% I shut down and unplugged it. Six hours later I started it up and it was still at 100% and I shut down again. In the AM about 15 hours later they were still at 100%.
My normal use is to use it on battery at night end of day I usually detach and reverse the screen and then use it in tablet mode to watch twitch for a few hours. I then shut down in tablet mode, and after shut down, I will detach and switch the screen around the right way and close the lid.
I will see if I notice any draining again using it normally as a laptop only on battery power for half the day, Then I will test using in tablet mode while connected to base and do a normal shutdown without a screen flip, then test doing a screen flip. If it doesn't happen again, I will be stumped.
I did mess with the power setting, removing sleep from the shutdown options, and making the power button and do a shut down. I also disabled fast startup.
I did not have this "battery drain while shut down" problem when I first got the Surface Book (16 GB 512 GB i7). It started happening for the last couple of days. So I'm suspecting it might be the new updates? This is one of the zillion problems I'm having with this laptop. But it is unbelievable how a laptop can drain while it is shut down -no not the lid being closed, or sleep etc. a complete "shut down."

I'm very much looking forward to what the January update will do for battery life and in particular "sleep".. I too power-down at night and definitely power down before putting mine in my commuter bag. I've not experienced much more than normal battery drain of just a few percent while turned off.
I will admit though that I'm a very heavy user and this is my main computer. It powers up in the morning as soon as I'm awake and it powers down just before I go to bed, seven days a week. It will really be nice to have "sleep" work like it should and not to have to remember to always power-down.

I just want to add I have the i5/8GB/Dgpu. This unit is about a week old, and is a replacement of my last unit.
I have done all updates, I have not touched any power settings.
My normal routine is to use it at night, I've used it every night since I bought it, and then in the morning put it on the charger. I have not turned on in the AM to take note of any % drop, but I may now.
Of more interest is that I had to replace my last one due to main battery at 0% and not charging. I think I may have left it off charge for a few days at that time too, but didn't think anything of it.
Both batteries were at 0% this time but after a 2 hours or so last night were almost fully charged.
I will pay more attention to shut down at night levels and morning levels. I'll post my results.
If detaching works better I will try that as over the weekends it's highly likely I don't get it on a charger all the time. I don't want to fear discharging a battery.
I hope the Jan patches fix this.
