surface book battery drain while shut down

I've had similar experiences.  The main concern for me has been the tendency of the machine to cook itself when it was nominally in sleep or hibernate mode.  Those problems had largely abated for me but seem to have come back with the firmware update from two weeks ago.  This includes multiple cases of the machine booting itself from a full shutdown, which it didn't used to do.

I now carry the machine detached and the only problem I've had is that if the tablet is "sleeping", it will sometimes crash with bugcheck 0x14f.  That would be survivable, except that when it reboots, it doesn't go back into low power state, so again, it cooks itself in my backpack.  So now I separate the parts and shut down, and so far, that's been reliable.  No battery drain, and more importantly, no cooking.

Thanks John1F. I had a Microsoft tech remotely check the computer today. All updates were installed. She went to device manager and reinstalled my "battery drivers?". Interesting, I note that they do now not show up in device manager now. Must be one of your tech support secrets....:) Anyway, before I called I noticed that even with no Ethernet connection connected to the USB port, I was loosing 10% power per day, completely shut down. From full charge and with 15 minutes of tech support, I was down to 80%. As to your question, Start-Power-Shutdown. I am checking again after the driver reinstall and if it happens again, I am to call back tech support. Thanks.

On my SurfaceBook i5/256/8/GPU model, I've been testing various battery drain states as well.  In my latest tests, I have "Fast Start" turned off, and I have been completely shutting down using the Start-Power-Shutdown option.

When my SB is docked to the keyboard and closed like a laptop, battery 2 (tablet) battery drains about 10% after 24 hours.  battery 1 (keyboard) drains about 5%.  This varies slightly each time I test.

When my SB tablet is disconnected and sitting no where near the keyboard dock, battery 2 (tablet) went down 0%.  I forgot to check battery 1 after this scenario, but I will keep testing.

But it sure looks like the theory of being connected to the keyboard has potential to being the issue.

I'm curious how your testing goes after you had your battery drivers reinstalled.  If it helped, also curious where she downloaded and reinstalled those drivers from.  Thanks

i am running insider build 11082.  In the past few days, my entire machine drains whether it is sleeping, hibernating or shutting down. Three days in a row now I've tested this and if my machine is unplugged and in either one of those states the battery goes down to zero.

This is my second machine because why would a third machine make a difference.

This issue apparently has nothing to do with the specific build of Windows 10 in use.  It is related to firmware/drivers which, although issued through Windows Update, are not in the same process of the Windows operating system itself.  While there may be interactions between the OS and firmware/drivers, as no updates to "Surface Hardware" has been issued since December 17, 2015, we're still all waiting for the real update that will solve the power management issues.

I'm do not run beta insider builds on my Surface Book.  My Surface Book only runs the released operating system and released updates.  I use my Surface Book to run my business.
