surface book battery drain while shut down

I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.

I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.

I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.

Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.

Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?

So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

    Your results are similar to mine. Not experiencing the spotty wifi that some are, and extra battery drain. Doing a more extensive test tomorrow... Hoping all goes well!

    MS released a new Surface Book firmware update and there was also a Win10 update.  Firmware came out on 1/27 and I installed both the firmware update and the Win10 update yesterday.  I did the 24 hour shutdown test with these new updates and happy to report that so far I am seeing an improvement.

    Before, I would lose about 5% a day when the SB was shut down.  This time, I only lost 1% total (2% on Battery 1, and 0% on Battery 2.)

    I haven't tested with Hibernate yet, but so far this looks promising.

    I'm curious what others see once they have a chance to install and test.  Fingers crossed!

    UPDATE:

    Sorry, I forgot to update this sooner.  It was either a fluke, or I wrote the info down wrong, because after futher testing, the latest Win10 updates and 1/27 firmware have not helped the battery drain when the SB is either off or in hibernate.  I still lose ~5% a day, even when completely shut down.

    Supposedly today some users have been able to download and install a new update, including the mythical 1/19/16 Intel driver and firmware updates. I haven't seen it on my SB through Windows update yet. Please post if you're able to download it and test the sleep issue after installing.

    Hey guys, so I have decided to return my Surface Book, the announcement was only for Surface 3 and Pro 3. I think an issue like this should have been at least addressed properly by Microsoft. This device is downright beautiful, but so many bugs (including this one) have killed my interest in keeping it since I don't know when there will be a fix. I hope they release a patch soon for all of you who had invested in this product.

    From what I read, you should be aware that you are currently going to find the same problems with any manufacturer using the latest Intel Skylake processors.

    The only two problems I have left are "Battery drain while shut down" and "sleep - heating".  For me I'm able to eliminate both problems by simply "completely" shutting down.  So for me I essentially have no problems, just a slight inconvenience.  I've not seen anything else out there that measures up to my Surface Book for what I want in a computer.

    Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
