Surface Pro 2017 Backlight Bleed

Screen bleed is normal on all electronic devices.  The iPhone also has screen bleed around the edges.  However, when the bleed moves away from the edges into the middle of the screen, then there is something wrong.

It made the bleed less noticeable but the black / darkening of the bottom was way more apparent.

I really loved drawing / painting with the Surface (I used Leonardo, it's fantastic) but I had to return it and cancel my account with Klarna. 

It also wasn't just the screen that was bothering me. The unit would get uncomfortably warm whenever I did minor things, like browse with Edge or draw. My Surface 3 never did those things. ):

Like I said, I wanted to love it but I ended up returning it. I'm putting some money away to get myself something else.

I think it's just a matter of costs. The problem is obvious enough that they don't not know about it. An insanely details-oriented person like Panos Panay would notice. And the problem also affects the Surface Laptop and many Surface Books I've seen, too. And there aren't too many people complaining about those issues. (Why? I have no idea - maybe it's the subset of Surface buyers that buy Pros that are more picky about these things. I sure am picky about these things.) So Microsoft figures it won't hurt them that much, at least relative to the cost of addressing the problem like a company that really, really cares about its customers.

Another thing to consider is that without the screen flaw, the Surface Pro screen is nothing short of amazing for a traditional LCD screen. Aside from the lightbleed at the bottom, the screen is amazingly even. Maybe Microsoft thinks, hey, all in all, not a bad job. And they wouldn't be completely wrong. It's just a shame because when I see a Surface Book unaffected by the lightbleed stripe, I can't help but long for what could have been on my Surface Pro.

Finally, remember that Surface isn't about sales for Microsoft. It's a technology demonstrator that happens to be a viable consumer product. They care about the health of the entire Windows 10 ecosystem, not really about their product line, which is meant mostly to inspire other OEM's. And their ecosystem is doing well recently - Windows 2-in-1's are selling well. Apple even had to "invent" the digital stylus and split-screen multitasking as a response.

On a personal note, the 2017 Surface Pro remains the best detachable 2-in-1 on the market, period, even considering the premium price for the branding and accessories. HP, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung - nothing comes close to the overall package, especially in terms of thermals and battery life. That's why I've given up. I've come to accept my Surface Pro with its screen flaw after two exchanges at the Microsoft store didn't fix the issue. Your mileage may vary.

I also tried your earlier option and it did help on the unit i had at the time, and yes i also had issues with the task bar. I ended up giving that unit back, and got another one. This time the bleed is much less obvious, but still there.

As posted earlier my dealings with Microsoft pretty much confirmed they don't see it as an issue/not acknowledging it as such and seem 'happy' for more returns to be high. Odd.

Do you mean you couldn't click on your taskbar anymore? That never happened with me.

I'm curious though, did it remove the bleed in your sketching software, as in your picture?
